Album Review: Little Boots “Hands”
While most of America has yet to feel her beat, she is already making a huge splash in the United Kingdom with her debut album. “Little Boots” first came on to my radar not too long ago, while I was watching a little late night MTV. After hearing the track “Remedy”, I wanted to hear more of with this new artist had to offer. Needless to say, I was blown away by the England natives’ enchanting voice, mixed with poetic yet powerful lyrics, and a backtracking that brings together the sounds of 1980’s Synthpop, disco, and Euro-pop with the production of today. “Hands” is an album full of poetry, encompassing life, love, and relationships. All of which is seen through the eyes and heard though the words of the artist who has lived it. In this album, Little Boots cleverly takes us on an entrancing ride through her minds eye without loosing a beat. We should defiantly be on the lookout for her, not only this summer, but also this year as an up-and-coming artist. Unlike 2006's jazz infused album, this time around Christina's alter-ego, "Xtina" is at the wheel, with Christina in the passenger’s seat. Now, Xtina isn't the same "Dirrty" girl that we saw in the "Stripped" album. Instead, she's a more "grown-n-sexy" version, who's more on the erotic side. "Bionic" opens with a title track of the same name. This first song serves as an introduction to Christina's new sound and direction for the rest of the album. "Not Myself Tonight", the second track and first single, not only does a great job of showing us the new grown up Xtina, but the lyrics also makes a statement about this album sound as a whole. "Woohoo", the third track, and upcoming single, is one of those that has to grow you. Now, I love a good pussy-eating anthem as much as the next fag (Madonna's "Where Life Begins" is my #1 favorite), but "Woohoo" reminds me of "Can't Hold Us Down", from the "Stripped" album, with Nicki Minaj this time instead of Lil' Kim. While “Elastic Love” reminds me of a leftover track from the upcoming M.I.A. album, “Desnudate”, on the other hand, is a sexy reminder of Christina’s latin roots. She also takes us back to her soulful Jazz side in “Morning Dessert”, “Sex for Breakfast”, and “All I Need”. The Ballads, “Lift Me Up” and “You Lost Me” don’t disappoint either. In all, “Bionic” is a pretty solid album. Christina offers a little bit of something for everyone. While listening to the album, “Bionic” felt somewhat like it was Christina’s spin on both of Madonna’s “Erotica” and “Bedtime Stories” albums, which I loved. Also, you must get into “Vanity”. “Bionic” gets 4 out of 5 stars. Favorite Tracks: - "Not Myself Tonight". - “Desnudate”. - “Glam” - “Sex for Breakfast” - “All I Need” - “My Girls” - “Vanity”
