Pretty and the City 02.14.10

by Rea Frey

We’ve all heard of Sex and the City. As a female writer, and now, consequently, a single female in the city of Chicago, I’ve dreamed of my own column where I could wax poetic about the woes of dating and the improbability of finding a smart and attractive man. And then Pretty Boy Enterprises came to the rescue. For many of you who are familiar with Pretty Boy, perhaps you peruse the faces, go to the events and hunt maniacally for pretty boys on the street. If you’re a straight female like myself, you don’t want much: just a nice, intelligent, sensitive, funny, compassionate, humorous and incredibly beautiful male. Is this truly asking for too much?

Incidentally, I married a pretty boy – a Ben Affleck, George Clooney look-alike, and found him so righteous and dreadfully dull, that we ended our seven-year relationship (not for those reasons, but they were on the list). I know pain, I know love, I know happiness, and most of all, I know what constitutes a pretty boy. What does that term mean for you? What are you looking for? Use this as your Chicago single survival guide. I will be here to talk about all aspects of dating in relation to the pretty boy. Hopefully, this will be a place to laugh, to inspire, to make you think and create situations to find beautiful men, and more importantly, ways to keep them.

    Hey Rea,

    I can sympathize with your need for some excitement and fun in your life,

    but can you tell me what being righteous
    has to do with dull?

    I mean, in your opinion, are all righteous men dull to you?

    Or are you just using that word in a different context?

    ‘Cause the way it looks like you’re saying it,
    makes it sound like in order for someone to not be dull,

    they’ve got to be ignorant to righteousness, bound by satan and deceived by evil.

    I would hope such a talented and gifted writer as yourself wouldn’t forget where those talents and gifts came from or be so petty as to imply

    righteous=boring.

    If so, I’m thinking you just don’t know what true righteousness is which is a cause for concern.

    Hi, Righteous Too. Righteous and dull are definitely two separate issues. I think being righteous is fine, but when it interferes with daily life and you are being shot down every second of the day for simply having an opinion, it gets to be a bit much. Couple that with a lack of passion and doing the same thing every day, and it wasn’t a great match. It’s not a slander on being righteous in general – I think a healthy amount can serve you well. Does that clear it up?

  • haha, Clooney is so crazy! I love him.

  • Are they not going to change the cast of Sex and The City ? the girls in there are getting old already.,”"
